Testing tools for QA and UAT

Turn on testing tools for QA or user acceptance testing: tester sign-off, a CSV of every comment, and complete tickets.

Testing tools are for projects where testers work through a site and you need a record: QA before launch, or user acceptance testing on a staging site. They are off until you turn them on, one project at a time.

Turn them on#

  1. Open the project and go to Settings. Testing tools is the first box.
  2. Press Turn on.
  3. Send testers the review link as usual. They need nothing installed, and on a project that lets anyone comment, no account either.

Press Turn off in the same place to switch them off. Only your team can turn them on or off.

What changes#

  • Approval: the Approve button asks testers to confirm they have finished testing and are happy with it. On a project that counts revision rounds, it is per round. See Client approval and sign-off.
  • Spreadsheet export: an Export CSV button appears on the project, for a test report or an approval record.
  • Complete tickets: comments sent to Jira, Linear, GitHub and your other connected tools include the console errors, the element and the environment, so developers do not need to open Drobber to start.

Console errors are only captured when Capture developer details is on, under Developer details further down Settings. Developer details come with every paid plan, the free trial and AppSumo Tier 2 and up. See Developer mode.

Export comments as a CSV#

Press Export CSV at the top of the project, or Export comments (CSV) in the Testing tools box. Only your team can export. You get one row per comment, in comment-number order, visitor feedback included, with these columns:

  • # (the comment number), Status and Type.
  • Page, Comment, Highlighted text and Suggested text.
  • Left by, Replies and Round.
  • Browser, OS, Device and Window (the window size).
  • Console errors.
  • Created and Last activity, in UTC.
  • Open in Drobber (a link to the comment) and the page’s full address.

The file opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets, and is named after the project and the date.

Testing on staging#

Add the staging address to the project’s allowed origins so staging and live share one project. A staging site behind a password still works: testers sign in to it as normal and Drobber runs in their browser. See Add the script to your site.
