Guest comments and "Require an account to comment"
Let anyone with the review link comment by giving just their name, with no account. Here is what guests can and cannot do.
By default, people need a Drobber account to comment on a project. If you would rather your client just opened the link and started commenting, turn off Require an account to comment in the project's Settings. Anyone with the link can then comment by giving their name.
Turn guest comments on or off#
- Open the project in Drobber and go to its Settings.
- Find Require an account to comment. It shows On by default.
- Press Let anyone comment to turn it off. To go back to accounts only, press Require accounts.
Only your team (owners and team members) can change this.
With the setting On, someone who opens the review link without access sees a sign-in screen and can ask to be let in. See Invite your clients.
What a guest gives#
Just a name. The first time a guest comments, Drobber asks "What's your name?" ("So everyone knows who left each comment. No account needed.") with a Your name field and a Continue button. Names can be up to 60 characters. Drobber never asks a guest for an email address.
The name is remembered in that browser, so they are not asked again. A guest can change it from the toolbar's settings menu (the sliders) with Change your name. The same box has a link for anyone who has an account: Have a Drobber account? Sign in.
What guests can do#
- Add comments: pins, text highlights and boxes.
- Choose the status (and the type, where your project has types) when they post.
- Reply to comments.
- Attach, paste and capture images, and draw on the page with Draw (
D). - React to comments and replies.
- Show up on the page with a live cursor, like everyone else reviewing.
What guests cannot do#
- Mention people: guests get no list of names, and a mention typed by a guest notifies nobody.
- Be notified: guests have no email address, so they get no email updates. Mentioning a guest does not notify them, even though their name can appear in the list for signed-in people.
- Edit their comments or replies afterwards, or delete them.
- Change the status, assignee or type of a comment once it is posted.
- Move pins.
- Pick a pin colour.
- Use stickers.
- Guide a review or use developer mode.
Guests on the same internet connection can add up to 40 comments, replies and reactions, and upload up to 20 images, per project in 15 minutes. This stops an open link from being used to flood a project.
If the link might be forwarded on, you can add a password to it as well. People signed in with an account that has access skip it. See Invite your clients.
