What each comment records
Every comment records the page, the element, the browser, OS, device and window size. Developer details add console errors and more.
Every comment saves where it was left and what it was left with, so nobody has to ask "which page, which browser?". Nobody has to fill anything in: it is recorded as the comment is posted.
What every comment records#
- Page: the page's address, including any query string.
- Element: the part of the page the comment is pinned to, with its CSS selector.
- Where on the page: the pin's position, or the size of the box, or the words highlighted.
- Browser and its version, for example Chrome 141.
- Operating system: iOS, Android, macOS, Windows or Linux.
- Device: Mobile, Tablet or Desktop, worked out from the browser.
- Window: the width and height of the browser window (the viewport) when the comment was left.
- For a video, the moment or stretch of the video.
- The author, the status, the revision round and, where your project has types, the type.
The window size is the size of the browser window, not the size of the screen. Screen size is recorded only with developer details (below). Browser zoom is never recorded.
Where you see them#
- On the site: open a comment and press the (i) button (Comment details). The panel is headed Comment details, Captured automatically, and lists Page, Element (hover to see the full selector), Browser, OS, Device and Window. Anyone who can open the comment sees this, clients included.
- In Drobber: open the comment from the project and press (i) Comment details. The same rows are shown.
- In a CSV export of a testing project, as the Browser, OS, Device and Window columns. See Testing tools for QA and UAT.
If the comment has an image, the panel on the site shows the first one at the top, labelled Screenshot. That is an image the reviewer added. Drobber does not take screenshots by itself. See Screenshots.
Developer details#
With developer details, each new comment also carries the technical side of the page, for your team:
- Console: errors and unhandled promise rejections on the page, plus console errors and warnings. Up to the last 20, with repeats counted.
- Element: its HTML tag with a little of its text, its size, font, font size, line height, weight, colour, background, padding, margin and corners. Values typed into form fields are never recorded.
- Environment: screen size, pixel ratio, light or dark mode, reduced motion, touch, language, time zone, page title, how long the page took to load and, in Chrome and other Chromium browsers, the exact operating system version.
Developer details come with every paid plan, the free trial and AppSumo Tier 2 and 3, but not AppSumo Tier 1. They are on when the project's Capture developer details setting is On, which it is by default. You will find it in the project's Settings, under Developer details, with a Turn off button.
Clients never see developer details. Your team sees them in Drobber under the comment's Developer details (with Copy developer details), and on the site in developer mode, on the comment's Developer tab (with Copy as bug report). They also go to Fix with Claude.
Developer details are removed after 90 days. The comment itself stays.
