Suggest text edits
Highlight some words and type the new wording right on the page. Drobber saves it as a comment that shows what the words were and should be.
Instead of describing a change in words, you can type the new wording where the old words are. Drobber saves it as a comment that shows the old wording (WAS) and the new (NOW).
Suggest an edit#
There are two ways to start. Highlight some words on the page, and a small bubble appears with Suggest edit and Comment. Choose Suggest edit. Or:
- Press Add comment (or
C) and drag across the words you want to change. - In the comment box, choose the Edit text tab.
Then:
- Type the new wording in the NOW box. Until you start typing, the first click selects all the words, so you can type straight over them.
- Format it if you need to, with the row under the box (see below).
- Press Suggest edit, or Enter.
The new wording is one line. Pasted text arrives as plain text. Press Esc to go back to a normal comment. A suggestion can be up to 2,000 characters, and it carries no note or images: if you want to explain it, reply to it once it is posted.
Formatting#
- Text style: Paragraph, Heading 1, Heading 2 or Heading 3.
- Bold, Italic and Underline (
Cmd-B,Cmd-I,Cmd-U, orCtrlon Windows). - Link: type the address and press Enter. Drobber adds
https://for you, ormailto:for an email address. - Clear formatting.
See it on the page as you type#
While you type, the page shows your new wording in place, marked in blue. Only you see this. It works when the words you highlighted are one run of text. If they run across a link, bold words or another part of the page, there is no preview, but the suggestion is saved just the same.
The bubble when you highlight text#
The bubble appears whenever you highlight words on the page while browsing. Comment starts an ordinary comment on those words, and Suggest edit starts a suggestion. It does not appear while you are already placing a comment, inside form fields, or in a tablet or mobile preview.
What your team sees#
On the site, the comment shows WAS and NOW, with three buttons:
- Preview on page (the eye): shows the new wording in place. Press it again (Stop previewing) to put the page back. It only appears on the page the comment was left on, when the highlight is one run of text.
- Copy new text: copies the new wording.
- Change the new text (the pencil): opens the box again to adjust the wording, with Cancel and Save. Only the person who suggested it (signed in) and your team can do this.
In Drobber, the comment shows the old wording struck through and the new wording below it, with a Copy new text button.
Drobber does not change your site by itself. Someone makes the change in your site, or your team hands it to Claude. See Fix a comment with Claude.
If you do not choose a type, a suggestion is saved as a Text change. See Comment types.
